HEATHER HYLAND

Credentials: LCSW, ACS

Title: Clinical Supervisor

Pronouns: she/her

Who I Work Best With:

I work with neurodivergent therapists, therapists that work with neurodivergent clients, child and family therapists, school counselors and social workers, and early childhood mental health professionals to explore and integrate clinical experiences and concepts so they can better support their private practice, school, or agency clients.

Are you a provisionally licensed or a licensed therapist working with young children, families, and adults, or specializing in neurodivergent clients? You might be working in a school setting, a private practice or an agency with little supervision and be seeking case consultation for working with your clients. Maybe you are looking to include more dyadic/family work into your clinical practice or you are noticing an increase in neurodivergent clients on your caseload. I can provide education, supervision hours, consultation services, and clinical guidance to support your work in these difficult yet rewarding areas.

The relationships and experiences you encounter in childhood inform you on how to navigate the world, making the ways you emotionally support your clients and their backgrounds essential. I enjoy working with children, families, and adults on things like family dynamics, parenting, neurodivergence, and other mental health concerns. With my experience in these areas, I can support you in your work with similar clients.

With neurodivergent clients, I can help you offer understanding in a world that often misunderstands them. We can work together to help your clients make sense of barriers in school, work, and relationships. My goal is to aid you in developing strategies that honor who they are. If you are a neurodivergent therapist yourself, you bring an incredible depth of insight, empathy, and lived experience to your work. Being both a therapist and neurodivergent person can create unique pressures and you deserve support that helps you thrive, not just cope.

I offer individual clinical supervision, group clinical supervision, individual consultation, and group consultation, all centering around supporting your clinical work.

Heather is licensed and approved to provide supervision in Colorado to provisionally licensed social workers and counselors.

Supervision

STYLE

If you are looking for a supervision experience built upon trust and collaboration, while encouraging an open dialogue, I would be a good fit working with you. Supervision sessions with me might include; presenting cases, discussing theoretical approaches, identifying interventions, creating plans, and discussing recommendations.

I approach supervision using the RIOS (Reflective Interaction Observation Scale) framework. The framework is built upon the reflective alliance, in that establishing and maintaining the relationship between supervisee and supervisor is the most important aspect. Within the reflective alliance are the essential elements and the collaborative tasks. The essential elements consist of understanding the family/client’s story, holding the client in mind, professional use of self, and parallel process. The collaborative tasks entail describing, responding, exploring, linking, and integrating. Together, we will use these components to guide growth and development and provide care for your clients while developing yourself as a professional in the field.

Supervision Training and Experience:

I have worked in many different settings including community mental health agencies, a family resource center, school settings, and private practice. I have experience as a clinical supervisor, a reflective supervisor/consultant, an individual and family therapist, early childhood mental health consultant, and a home visitor. I have over 5 years of experience supervising a diverse set of professionals including provisionally licensed therapists, licensed therapists, early childhood mental health consultants, home visitors, case managers, and interns. I am an endorsed reflective supervisor through CoAHIM for early childhood mental health professionals and am working towards becoming an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS).

I have a special interest in neurodivergence and continue to learn more about this topic through training, books, and advocacy. This special interest is fueled from raising a twice-exceptional child who is at the root of my continued passion in work with children and those that support them.
