What You Should Know About

CLINICAL

SUPERVISION

IN NEBRASKA

Every state has its own supervision requirements and Nebraska is no exception. Whether you’re working toward your LMHP, LIMHP, CMSW, or CMFT it’s important to understand who can supervise you, how many hours are required, and what Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services needs for licensure.

At Firelight Supervision, we support Nebraska professionals at all stages. Including Provisionally Licensed Mental Health Practitioners (PLMHPs) and Provisionally Certified Master Social Workers (PCMSWs) as you move toward independent licensure.

LMHP CLINICAL SUPERVISION

If you are a PLMHP working toward your LMHP, Nebraska requires 3,000 hours of mental health practice experience, including 1,500 direct client hours and weekly clinical supervision. You can count either in-person or virtual individual or group supervision towards your hours. You may elect to obtain an additional certification, after your LMHP including Certified Professional Counselor, Certified Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Master Social Worker.

LIMHP CLINICAL SUPERVISION

If you are an LMHP working towards your LIMHP, of those 1,500 direct clinical hours within 3,000 hours of mental health experience must be with individuals diagnosed under major mental illness or disorder categories. You must obtain 2 hours of clinical supervision per 15 hours of direct contact, either in-person or virtual, individual or group supervision.

CMSW CLINICAL SUPERVISION

If you are a PCMSW working toward your CMSW, you must complete 3,000 hours of post-master’s experience with supervision from a Nebraska-licensed CMSW, including a minimum of 1 hour of weekly supervision. This may be individual or group supervision. CSWs cannot provide mental health services or practice independently.

CMFT CLINICAL SUPERVISION

If you are working towards your CMFT in Nebraska, you are a PLMHP, and must obtain an LMHP license, and then you can apply for a CMFT certification. Nebraska requires 3,000 clinical hours under supervision of an LMHP/LIMHP, and 1,500 of those clinical hours must be direct hours. One hour of supervision per week is required, either individual supervision or group supervision.

Nebraska

GROUP SUPERVISION

For provisionally licensed clinicians in Nebraska such as PLMHPs, PCMSWs, and aspiring CMFTs, we offer group supervision to support your licensure requirements while creating a space for reflection and connection with peers. Our online supervision groups allow you to strengthen your skills, address ethical challenges, and learn alongside others who are navigating similar experiences. These groups are facilitated by a qualified clinical supervisor and are designed to support you as you move toward independent licensure.

Nebraska

GROUP CONSULTATION

For independently licensed clinicians in Nebraska, including LMHPs, we provide group consultation that supports ongoing professional development. Our consultation groups create a space for therapists or social workers to get case consultation and strengthen their clinical confidence. These groups are held virtually, making them accessible no matter where you are. Each group focuses on maintaining ethical, culturally responsive, and effective clinical work while offering a space for discussion and shared learning among your peers.
