Lunch & Learn: June Clinical Workshop- Motivational Interviewing with Substance Use Disorders
This training will provide participants with a perspective on how MI tools are relevant and useful for addressing substance abuse disorder. You will be able to recognize how the “Spirit” of Motivational interviewing promotes and supports a trauma informed system of care. This training will create interest among those new to the Motivational Interviewing techniques in pursuing more training and practice. Overall, it will provide hope. There are techniques that work.
July 20, 2023 12-1pm MST

For therapists, social workers, counselors, and other health care professionals in Colorado

The Training will help you understand:

-Motivation is essential to substance use behavior change. It is multidimensional, dynamic, and fluctuating; can be enhanced; and is influenced by the counselor’s style.

-Benefits of using motivational counseling approaches include clients’ enhancing motivation to change, preparing them to enter treatment, engaging and retaining clients in treatment, increasing their participation and involvement in treatment, improving their treatment outcomes, and encouraging a rapid return to treatment if they start misusing substances again.

Yes, this training will be recorded. But you’ll get best results if you attend this LIVE and INTERACTIVE training including:

1. The Transtheoretical Model (TTM) of the Stages of Change (SOC) approach is a useful overarching framework that can help you tailor specific counseling strategies to the different stages.

2. Recognize the shift away from abstinence-only addiction treatment perspectives toward client=centered approaches that enhance motivation and reduce risk.

3. A certificate of completion for the training for use towards your Colorado Professional Development hours

4. In-person trainings create greater accountability for implementing something new for yourself
